wordcloud stigmaMany people have a desire to share their story to help others. Room4Everyone's speakers bureau is named Courageous Minds. By joining Courageous Minds individuals have a chance to make a difference by sharing their story. Face-to-face interaction is also called 'contact'. This appears to be the most promising strategy for reducing stigma and discrimination. This invites people to examine their thoughts, feelings and beliefs about people with mental health challenges without confrontation or blame.

By sharing personal stories about living with a mental illness we can increase community understanding and reduce stigma. People begin to understand that Mental Health challenges can happen to anyone, regardless of what race or religion someone is, if they have a lot or a little money, if they are of average intelligence or highly successful. One in four, means someone we know, someone we are in relationship with, someone we care about.

We understand that sharing your journey through mental illness and recovery may be brand new for some people, while others may have had some experience.

The initial training for Courageous Minds includes a 3 session workshop. After completing all 3 sessions and becoming a member, there will be opportunities for training and shared learning experiences. The goal of these is to build a community of support among the group as well as continue to grow in our skills and understanding.
